Betting on Chiefs in NFL Preseason
The Kansas City Chiefs may be significantly better this year when you bet on the NFL and they may begin to show it when they begin the preseason in Atlanta on August 13th. The Chiefs will be longshots in NFL preseason probabilities in that opener and they may be worth a bet.
NFL preseason betting on the Kansas City Chiefs continues in Week 2 as they're in Tampa Bay. The Chiefs final 2 preseason games are at home as they host Philadelphia and Green Bay. The Chiefs have been actually bad the past three seasons going 10-38 but there is real optimism in Kansas City that things can change this year. 2010 may be different despite the fact that the first year under new general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Todd Haley did not go well in 2009.
The Chiefs are led on offense by Matt Cassel and running back Jamaal Charles. Last year the Kansas City Chiefs introduced Charlie Weis in the off-season to take the reins since they couldn't actually get their offense untracked. Romeo Crennel as also introduced by the squad to handle the defense. Crennel was opted for by the Kansas City Chiefs in January of this year, taking the place of Clancy Pendergast as the team's defensive coordinator.
The Chiefs included running back Thomas Jones in the off-season and he gives them a great option along with Charles in the backfield. In the draft they received Dexter McCluster who may be dangerous on 3rd downs. They re-signed Chris Chambers in the off-season so they've got a quality receiving choice. Kansas City's offense definitely has potential.
Jones was drafted 7th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He has performed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Chicago Bears and the New York Jets. He signed a 2 year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs after he was released by the Jets in March of 2010. McCluster was a 2nd round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played at the University of Mississippi for the Ole Miss Rebels. He's the Kansas City Chiefs' newest wide receiver.
The problem for Kansas City is the defense. They did get Eric Berry with the fifth total pick and he'll assist the squad but there are other issues. The Chiefs have not gotten much out of Glenn Dorsey or Tyson Jackson. Both competitors were high draft picks and have been disappointments thus far. The secondary is weak and the linebackers for Kansas City are only average. If the defense is to be better, it will be up to Berry to live up to his celeb potential.
The AFC West is a division that everybody is giving to the Chargers in NFL preseason probabilities, yet San Diego has weaknesses. It's not impossible for them to be a major surprise if things really get together for the Kansas City Chiefs this year.
