Fall Yard Sale

103 9
Having a yard sale is a great way to clear out your space of trash that could become someone else's treasure, make a little money, and have a fun day with family and friends in the fresh fall air.
If you plan it right everyone will have a great time and enjoy the feeling of having a whole lot less junk to deal with.
Here are a few simple tips to help you have the perfect fall yard sale, either just with your family or with a larger group.
Planning The first step to planning your yard sale is figuring out just which yards will be involved.
If you want to go it alone, than you are all finished with this step.
However, yard sales are often more appealing to passersby, and thus more successful, if you get a group together, such as you and a few neighbors, or your entire church.
Once you have your group together, you need to decide on a date and time, a rain date, and a division of responsibilities.
Someone will need to hang posters around the neighborhood, post an ad in the local paper, and any other form of advertisement that may help to get the word out.
Once you feel you have every job covered, you can get to work on your own until the big day (or weekend).
Running A Smooth Operation The key to running your fall yard sale smoothly is organization.
If you are having a group sale and have different cash boxes for different items, have everyone mark their things clearly before setting up and clearly marked pay tables.
Or, if you are having the sale with a church community, it may make things simpler to raise money for the church or a charity (neighbors could all chip in for a charity as well!).
Make sure to have plenty of change available at the start of the sale and decide on prices beforehand.
If you have got kids helping out, give them the task of planning a lemonade/bake sale that they can have the responsibility of running.
Cleaning Up One dangerous pitfall of having a big yard sale is not doing anything with the junk you are left with.
To make things a lot easier on yourself, and everyone else involved, you may want to share a rented dumpster.
If you order a dumpster onsite for just after the sale ends, the job basically takes care of itself.
Everything will already be right there waiting to be scooped up, so no one will even have to take any of the junk back into their homes.
Just be sure to find a reputable dumpster rental company and that they can have your dumpster there on the final day of your sale.
