Coffee As a Reward For Obeying the Law?
The route that Ohio State Highway Patrol is taking is to reward any good efforts by drivers on the Ohio Turnpike who are driving while buckled up by giving them a coupon for free coffee.
This is hopefully a good association that will cause everyone in Ohio, and potentially the rest of the US, to drive safely while wearing seatbelts.
I would much prefer to get a quality coupon for a cup of Joe than a citation for failing to wear a seatbelt any day! Ohio State Patrolmen are actually giving out these coupons to buckled up drivers at any of these service plazas that mark the Ohio Turnpike because they had been driving with a seatbelt on.
The coupons are good for a free cup of Joe at any of the restaurants in the Turnpike Plaza, which would either be McDonald's, Burger King, or Hardee's.
This means that you can instantly be rewarded with a hot cup of Java simply for obeying the law.
The Ohio Patrolmen are speaking out that they are hoping to give out these goodwill efforts to people who are adhering to seatbelt safety because it is important to save lives, and they want to encourage as many people as possible to do this.
In spite of these facts, the Ohio Turnpike happens to be one of the safest roads in the entire US, and it has a crash-fatality rate that is below half of the national average.
The Ohio State Patrol is still working on educating all drivers, and they can even watch videos on the closed-circuit video monitors in the Turnpike plaza to give safe driving tips in different situations like construction zones, speed, and traffic safety.
In addition to all of the safety efforts, the gas pumps in the Turnpike plaza have numerous stickers with safety slogans on them so that drivers remember to keep a safe speed and be aware of the conditions on the road.
It seems that rewarding good drivers with treats like Java is a wonderful step in the right direction to not only promote statewide safety, but to also brighten up the day of those following the rules of the road.
It is obvious that being actually rewarded from an officer of the law will definitely stick out in the minds of drivers, especially if they get to pull back into traffic with a steaming cup of Joe.
Not only will this help them to be awake and alert on the road, but it's also fantastic reminder of how rewarding coffee can truly be.
Hopefully all states will jump on board and begin to offer these type of nice gestures for actually following rules, especially since we are so used to being tracked down and punished for infracting on the law.
Regardless, coffee is always a wonderful reward!
