Folding Sliding Doors against Patio Doors
During the last couple of year the popularity of folding sliding doors has increased significantly with many people choosing them not only for new builds but also for replacing older patio doors. Here we look at the reasons why they have become so popular.
Patio doors traditionally were designed to allow better access from a room to the outside world, often featuring full glazing to allow light into a room, the idea that these doors would just open back was very appealing, albeit restrictive in many cases. Patio doors by their design are a two door system and therefore the limit to their size and width is very restrictive due to weight constraints.
This allowed a few manufacturers to test the market with a new concept Folding Sliding Doors, at first the sizes were restricted to standard Patio door sizes 1800mm, 2100mm and 2400mm designed as a 3 door system where the consumer could choose either a left hand or right hand opening. The benefit being that all the doors could be pushed to one side giving total access to the outside without any pillars or posts in the way.
This new concept was an instant success; consumers could see the benefits and the idea were quickly picked up by the TV makeover shows, thus giving the product even more publicity. Almost overnight the concept of Folding Sliding doors was an instant hit. Very quickly the range of sizes increased to keep pace with customer demands. As well as 1800mm, 2100mm and 2400mm sizes, 3000mm, 3600mm and 4200mm were added to the range giving from 3 doors to 6 door options. The larger options being available in various door configurations, again giving the consumer more choice and variety.
Anyone building a new property could now have the concept of a large glass area secure when closed that would allow the outside world in once opened, in many cases the doors allowed for a large open space giving plenty of access without the need for unsightly posts or pillars.
Without doubt Folding Sliding doors are a truly inspired lifestyle concept that ingeniously and cost effectively facilitates bringing the outside into the home and extending the interior to the exterior, instantly creating increased living space along with a more salubrious environment in which to both live on a day to day basis and entertain.
