- 1). Drill small holes into the plywood for the buttons. Drill the first hole 10 inches in from the side and 6 inches down from the top. Drill the next hole 12 inches below the first, then another hole 12 inches from the second hole. Drill another column of 3 holes 10 inches in from the opposite side. Drill 9 more holes between the first two column of holes, evenly spacing them.
- 2). Coat the front of the plywood with spray adhesive and place the foam on top of it. You may want to go outside to do this step, or at least open a window and turn on a fan to ventilate the room.
- 3). Spread the batting flat on a table or the floor. Center the plywood board on it, foam side down. Wrap the ends of the batting over the back of the board, pulling the batting taut.
- 4). Staple the batting to the plywood on the back, starting in the middle of the top of the headboard, then stapling in the middle of the bottom, then the middle on each side. Continue stapling, spacing staples 3 inches apart. Fold the batting at each corner like you are wrapping a present, then staple it down.
- 5). Lay the fabric flat on the table or ground, right side down. Place the batting covered plywood on top of the fabric and repeat the wrapping and stapling process. Trim any extra fabric from the back of the board when finished stapling.
- 6). Cut a 2-foot-long length of thread. Thread the upholstery needle with the thread.
- 7). Push the needle through one of the drilled holes, through the foam and up through the batting and fabric. Slide the needle through one of the button's loop or holes. Make sure you leave a length of thread hanging out of the hole, so you can secure the button. Push the needle back through the fabric and foam and out of the hole again, then push it back into the foam and fabric and through the button's loop.
- 8). Push the needle through the fabric and foam and out of the hole again. Thread the needle through the eye of the washer. Pull tightly so that the button pushes into the foam in the front, creating the tufted look. Tie the thread to the washer to hold the button in place. Repeat with the remaining 14 buttons.
- 9). Separate the four extra-thin flush mounts and attach one half of each to the four corners on the back of the headboard. Screw into place with the screwdriver.

Attach one half of one of the flush mounts to the wall, 2 inches away from the edge of the mattress and 30 inches above the height of the mattress. Attach another flush mount 6 inches below the mattress and 2 inches away from its edge. Attach the other two mounts on the other side of the bed, 2 inches away from the mattress's edge. Use a level to make sure the mounts are even. - 11
Lift up the headboard and slide the mounts together to hang it behind the bed. They will interlock.
