DIY Alarm Panel

    • 1). Cut three lengths of electric wire from the spool, each six feet long. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from both ends of all three wires with a wire stripper.

    • 2). Place a sheet of newspaper on a work surface. Place the soldering iron’s base on the newspaper. Place the soldering iron on the base and plug its power cord into an outlet. Let the soldering iron heat up for six minutes.

    • 3). Place the battery pack on the newspaper with the open end facing up. Solder the end of one of the wires to the “+” (positive) labeled contact on the battery pack. Let the solder cool for two minutes.

    • 4). Place the alarm panel face down on the newspaper. Loosen the screw on each side with a Phillips jeweler’s screwdriver.

    • 5). Wind the other end of the wire around the screw at the left side of the panel. Tighten the screw with the Phillips screwdriver. Wind one of the ends of another of the wires around the other screw on the panel. Tighten the screw.

    • 6). Solder the other end of the wire to the “+” (positive) labeled contact on the DC-powered siren. Let the solder cool for two minutes. Solder an end of the third wire to the “-” (negative) labeled contact on the siren and wait two minutes.

    • 7). Solder the other end of the wire to the “-” (negative) labeled contact on the battery pack. Let the solder cool for two minutes. Unplug the soldering iron. Let the soldering iron completely cool before continuing.

    • 8). Place the battery pack on the floor next to or under the bed. Place the panel against the wall next to your night table. Insert wood screws through the pre-drilled holes in the sides of the panel. Screw the panel to the wall, where it can be easily reached with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 9). Place the siren on the wall up against the ceiling. Insert wood screws through the pre-drilled holes in the sides of the siren. Screw the siren to the wall with a Phillips screwdriver.

      Insert batteries into the battery pack. Press your homemade alarm panel switch to activate the siren. Press the panel to deactivate the siren.
