    • 1). Write down a list or reasons you feel your attorney should be fired. Make sure that the reasons are valid complaints specific to your particular attorney, and another attorney will be able to serve you better. Valid complaints include a unwillingness to understand and research your case, the inability to see eye-to-eye and outright laziness on your attorney's behalf.

    • 2). Review the original attorney/client contract or agreement. Find out if the contract outlines a formal process to end the agreement. This is unusual, but if there is such a clause in the contract, follow the necessary steps.

    • 3). Research and interview new attorneys. Tell each attorney your unique circumstances to ensure he can provide the service you need. Hire a new attorney, before you send the letter.

    • 4). Compose a letter to your lawyer, stating your wishes to end your relationship. Keep it simple. You do not need to go into detail, just state that the attorney you is unable to fulfill your legal needs. Send the letter through certified mail.

    • 5). Check on any money that needs to be settled up. Your lawyer may owe you payments you made in advance, if services were never rendered. On the flip side, you may owe your lawyer charges already occurred. The lawyer may also have the right to charge you for any copied files.
