What Filler Goes With Green Roses?
- Long, slender grasses used as a filler in flower arrangements and bouquets that contain green roses will complement and accent the unique flower without overpowering it. Lily grass, with long, arching, blue-green-colored grass blades, or olive-colored bear grass that also gracefully falls into an arch, are ideal for complementing the green roses and bringing a sense of balance to an arrangement.
- Using sprigs of berries in a bouquet containing green roses will complement and accent the roses with the visual effect of soft, small spherical objects subtly surrounding the dominant, larger blooms. Berries on the sprigs can be in green tones for a monochromatic look, or select colored berries in yellow, pink, purple or red to carry the eye throughout the arrangement. Hypericum berries are frequently used as fillers in arrangements and bouquets because of the berries' resemblance to pearls and the variety of berry colors, from lime green to pinks and reds.
- Flowers used as fillers in bouquets and arrangements are common and in most arrangements any type of flower will do. But when you are incorporating green roses, you want the rose to be accentuated, not the filler flowers, and, therefore, the choice needs to be more selective. Filler flowers that will accent green roses should be visually simple with small blossoms and minimal color. Baby's breath, statice, Queen Anne's lace, aster, goldenrod, gypsophilia and white star of Bethlehem are all delicate, small bloom filler flowers. Another interesting flower stalk to use with green roses to keep the bouquet or arrangement monochromatic is the green blooming Bells of Ireland.
- Large-leafed or thick, full greenery can overpower and hide the beauty of green roses and, therefore, are not appropriate fillers for arrangements and bouquets. More open and delicate greenery will showcase the rose. Soft, airy ferns like tree fern and plumosa have a wispy appearance that provides an appealing background for green roses. Caspia, eucalyptus, ivy and bupleurum also have a soft, delicate appearance that complements green roses.
