Does the HTC Evo 4G Phone Include a Hot Spot in the Plan?
- The HTC EVO 4G runs on Google's Android operating system and was the first 4G smartphone to be released in the U.S. It has many common smartphone features, including Web browsing, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality.
- The HTC EVO 4G can act as a mobile hotspot, creating a mini Wi-Fi network that becomes available to additional devices like laptops, iPods and other smartphones. Devices can connect to the HTC EVO 4G's hotspot just as they would with any other available Wi-Fi connection. The HTC EVO 4G's mobile hotspot feature simultaneously supports up to eight devices at one time, five of which can be computers.
- As of July 2011, Sprint offers HTC EVO 4G users the optional Sprint Mobile Hotspot feature for $29.99 per month. This is in addition to the terms and conditions associated with your standard Sprint service plan. Contact Sprint to add the Sprint Mobile Hotspot feature to your plan. Enable the feature on your HTC EVO 4G by pressing the Menu button at the Home screen, selecting "Settings" and tapping the check box for "Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot" in the "Wireless & Network" menu.
- The HTC EVO 4G will connect to Sprint's 4G network whenever possible. As of July 2011, Sprint's 4G network is available in most major U.S. metropolitan areas, with continued expansion of the network taking place. Sprint's 4G WiMAX network offers average download speeds of 3 to 6 Mbps, with peak speeds over 10Mbps. If Sprint's 4G service is not available, the HTC EVO 4G will use Sprint's 3G network for all data use. The 3G network offers average download speeds of 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps, with peak speeds reaching 3.1Mbps. HTC EVO 4G mobile hotspot speeds will vary depending on the service area, devices connected and what actions are being taken on each device.
