How to Collect an ICBC Deductible
- 1). Report the problem to the local police. For a claim to be approved, a police report is typically required. The vehicle owner should report the incident to the local police whether it is an accident, vandalism or any other form of damage.
- 2). Call ICBC's Dial-a Claim phone center. This phone center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the number is listed at the ICBC website. All claims must be processed through this center. A Dial-a-Claim representative will handle the claim and direct you to an approved ICBC claim centre to have an estimate of damages conducted. Sometimes, the claim centre can fix the vehicle at the same location where the estimates are conducted.
- 3). Have an adjuster review the incident. An ICBC adjuster reviews all details regarding the claim. The adjuster determines fault based on the information collected.
- 4). Receive a damage estimate. After the damage estimate is complete and the claim is approved, the car is repaired at an auto repair shop of the owner's choice. If the car is not repairable, a loss settlement amount is calculated and the car would need to be salvaged.
- 5). Pay the deductible. After the assessment of damages is complete and before the work is done, the vehicle owner must pay the required deductible. The ICBC then pays the remainder of the bill. If an accident occurs that is determined not to be the vehicle owner's fault, the vehicle owner does not pay a deductible.
- 6). Review the amount offered. If a customer is not happy with the offer the ICBC gives, the customer may request that the claim be reviewed. If this does not help, a dispute can be made through the British Columbia Arbitrations and Mediation Institute.
