    CD Rights

    • As long as you own the CD yourself, you have full rights to download it onto your iPod. When you import a CD, no licenses are imported. This is because iTunes sees this as music you have legally purchased. Licenses on iTunes Store purchases often have a license simply to allow the software to see the music files as legal.

    Importing

    • When you insert a CD, most systems ask if you want to import or rip the CD. To download CDs to your iPod, the easiest method is to use iTunes to rip the CD. Ripping is another term for importing or downloading. Choose the track or tracks you want to download, press the import button and iTunes does the rest. The process takes anywhere from a few seconds per song to almost 30 seconds depending on the speed of your CD burner.

    Settings

    • In iTunes you can choose quality, file naming, file type and file location settings for downloading CDs. The default settings are perfect for most users since they are set for optimum quality, size and compatibility with your iPod. You can change your settings at any time by going to "Edit" and selecting "Preferences."

    Syncing

    • Once you've downloaded the CD into iTunes, sync the files to your iPod. If you have automatic syncing enabled, the added CD or songs will automatically download to your iPod. For manual syncing, drag and drop the new songs or CDs to your device. As soon as the sync process completes, the CDs will be listed under the music category on your iPod.
