Why Take a Family Road Trip?

You could ask that question at two levels, really - Why are we planning a six-week road trip with three teenagers, a giant poodle, and a tiny trailer? Why are we putting so much effort into writing about it? The two questions point to the same answer: We've found some simple, and unconventional, ways to be happy.
As a family, as a couple, as individuals.
Life isn't perfect, and we don't always have everything that we want, but God has given us everything we need, and certainly enough to keep us entertained if we just focus on appreciating what we've got.
From Eccl 5:18-20 18 - Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good.
It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life.
19 - And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it.
To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life-this is indeed a gift from God.
20 - God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.
Watching the news, reading the magazines, listening to friends and relatives talk, it's easy to get the impression that we are slaves to our jobs, or that we're slaves to our children, or our debt.
This doesn't have to be true! Our jobs should give us freedom, our kids should give us new experiences, and our debts...
well, our debts should be retired as rapidly and as painlessly as possible.
We live in a time where most of America has more freedom, more material wealth, and more information than at any time in history.
Why do so many feel so hopelessly trapped? Be free! There's so much to enjoy in life, if you just make the decision that you're going to enjoy it.
Don't wait for retirement to start enjoying life - decide that you have everything you need to enjoy life today.
Three years ago, we didn't know how we were going to pull this off.
We just knew that it was something we wanted to do, for ourselves, for each other, and for our kids.
So we decided to do it.
The details we worked out as we went along.
We're still wrestling with some pretty big details, but I have faith that the solution will arrive when we need it.
We are blessed to have come to this realization.
We are doubly blessed in being able to believe it, and practice it in our lives.
The only way to further multiply the blessing is to share it with all of you.
