Production

• The production process for urethane insulation involves blowing a chlorofluorocarbon (CF) gas through urethane resin to produce foam. The gas improves the insulatory capability of the material but gradually escapes into the atmosphere over time, so urethane insulation is usually covered with aluminum foil.
  
  

Installation

• Urethane installation can be installed as boards or sprayed onto surfaces using a spray gun. The latter method involves a skilled technique that is probably best left to a professional installer.
  
  

Benefits

• A home sprayed with urethane insulation can be up to twice as energy efficient as a home with traditional, batt insulation---rolls of insulating fibers, such as fiberglass or expanded shale---and can produce significant savings on energy costs as a result.
