- 1). Place lemon peel in your kitchen garbage container to help neutralize the smell of the garbage. Once you've used the juice from the lemon, you likely are going to get rid of the peel anyway. Score it by making long, shallow incisions with a knife to allow more of the lemon's smell to be released.
