Definition: Amiidae is the Bowfin family, of which the only remaining member is found in North America. It resides in the Mississippi basin, the Great Lakes, and east to Vermont. They are a large primitive freshwater fish, growing to more than a yard in length, and prefer cool waters (15-20 C.) A voracious eater of all foodstuffs, they will eat any tankmates they are placed with.
