Florida is home to several of the nation's largest colleges and universities. While most schools can be found in the central and southern parts of the state, the northeast section has several institutions of higher learning, including a mixture of community colleges, public and private schools. - Daytona State College offers nearly 100 Associates of Science degrees and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in education, as well as management. Formerly a community college, Daytona State was upgraded to a 4-year college in the early 2000s to help meet the state and nation's need for four-year schools. Tuition at the college is among the best for state residents in the country. Although a four-year school, Daytona continues to compete athletically in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
