Acne is normally very irritating. It not only affects a person's physical appearance but also disturbs one psychologically.  Most people who suffer from acnes rush for over the counter drugs. These are available in several types and just like any other medicinal drugs, produce different results on different individuals. They include creams, washes and many other types. A good number of them have been quite effective in reducing the swelling, the redness of the pimples and making the skin appear attractive once more. They also help remove the oils that clog the skin and remove the dead cells on the skin that encourages development of acne. They meant to deal with different degrees of acne. There are those that are used to clear severe acne while others are used to deal with mild acne. Most of the over the counter treatments for acne are designed to make the skin dry out and clean out the skin pores so as to discourage acne development.

Oral antibiotics

Other than creams that one is supposed to apply directly to the affected part of the skin, there are other antibiotics that one is supposed to take orally just like you do with other medicinal drugs. These ones too are quite common and most physicians you visit will prescribe them. This is because bacteria are known to frequently cause acne; hence an antibacterial dose can be very helpful. Different antibiotics have different rates of effectiveness, some take only a few days while others take several weeks. In case an antibiotic does not seem to work after you have used it and waited for a considerable amount of time, you can change to a different one.

Laser therapy

This is one of the newer treatments for acne that has proved to work. The treatment for acne works by closing the pores which makes it difficult for the acne to develop. Unlike some forms of treatment that were known to cause even liver damage, laser treatment does not have any serious side effects and can be used comfortably to treat acne. They may be a bit expensive but they have proved to be a very reliable form of treatment for acne.
