- 1). Unfasten the negative battery cable of the vehicle from the battery post with an open-end wrench before attempting to replace the EGR valve on the slant six engine to avoid the possibility of electrical shock. Locate the EGR valve on the back of the intake manifold, behind the carburetor.
- 2). Disconnect the rubber vacuum hose from the top of the valve and set it aside. Loosen the bolts that secure the EGR valve to the engine block with a socket wrench and remove the valve from the engine compartment.
- 3). Attach the new EGR valve to the slant six engine with bolts and conect the rubber vacuum hose to the metal port on the top of the valve. Attach the negative battery cable to the vehicle battery post.
