Too Busy To Write? Here Are Some Writing Tips.

Well, its the beginning of the school year, and if youre anything like me, youre feeling overwhelmed. If youre like me, you want to spend as much time as possible writing, but school, clubs, sports, homework, and other activities get in the way. Maybe youve got hundreds of stories spinning around in your head, but you dont feel like youve got any time to actually flesh them out.

Finding time to write is hard to do, especially during this time of year. But if you are really passionate about writing, its important to take steps, no matter how small they may be, to fit it into your busy schedule. Of course, school, friends, and family are important, but dont convince yourself that writing isnt important as well. God blessed you with a love of literature, and when you take the time to improve your writing, youre giving glory to Him.

Here are some tips to help you fit writing into your hectic lifestyle:

1.Carry a journal or notebook with you at all times. Have you ever had a sudden aha! moment, a thought or an experience that just made you think, Ive got to write this? If you havent had this type of experience yet, you will, and if you dont have a pen and paper on hand, that bright blip of inspiration may slip away. Dont trick yourself into thinking that youve got a superhuman memory, because even the most brilliant story or poem ideas can be lost in the shuffle of your mind. You can find inspiration in the most unlikely places, so always be prepared.

2.Schedule regular writing sessions. Maybe weekends are the only days when you have time to write. Maybe you can write every day, but only during the afternoons or evenings. Maybe early in the morning, before school, is the best time for you. No matter how busy your schedule is, there are always little breaks between one responsibility and the next. Make the most of those breaks. Even if you can only spare five to 10 minutes a day to write, its better than nothing. Spending those few minutes working on your writing projects instead of on Facebook or Tumblr can make a big difference.

3.Convince yourself that your writing is important. Thats really what this all boils down to. Dont listen to that friend who tells you that that sci-fi novel youre writing is a waste of time. Dont let your family talk you out of writing sonnets because poetry wont make you a billionaire. Your interest and talent for writing is a gift from God, and He has a purpose for you. Whether or not you make millions of dollars on book sales is not important. What matters is that you use your God-given talents to bless those who read your work.

Remember: you are a writer. Right now. It doesnt matter that you havent published a book yet. It doesnt even matter that you havent mastered the craft or found your niche. Youre a writer right now, and you will continue to be one as long as you dont give up. But if you let other peoples discouraging words or the demands of your busy lifestyle get in the way, you may forget who you are. Dont let that happen.

No one else can tell your stories but you, and your stories need to be heard. Dont give up, even when a hundred other responsibilities loom in the distance and make it hard for you to pick up your pen. Pick it up and jot down those blips of inspiration and moments of frustration. Who knows? You may have time enough later on to flesh those out into works of art. But youll never know if you dont stop, take a deep breath, and write.
