Steps to Deter Land Clearing Problems
- Before clearing, get all of the appropriate permits. It often takes special permits to clear land. Some lands, if home to protected species, may not be cleared legally. Clearing land before retaining permission from all overseeing governing bodies can result in hefty fines or the destruction of irreplaceable plant and animal life.
- Leave plant growth along embankments, ground with steep slopes and areas where increased erosion is likely undisturbed. This will help to prevent soil compaction, erosion, waterway sedimentation and landslide. The root system of vegetation in these locations is what holds the soil in place.
- Replant land that has been cleared as soon as possible. Replanting soil with desirable vegetation will prevent infestation by weeds and stabilize top soil before it is lost. For grassy areas use sod to grow even and weed-free turf rapidly.
