Intentional movement of air from outside a building to inside is known as ventilation. It also includes the circulation of air within a building. Devices which help in ventilation are known as ventilators. There are two types of ventilation used in buildings - natural and mechanical. In natural ventilation, air from the outside is allowed to enter the house through windows and doors. Example of mechanical ventilation is using an exhaust fan to circulate the air.

In this age where pollution is on the rise, air ventilators play a very important role. ‘Air Exchange Rate' is the term given to the rate at which outdoor air replaces indoor air. When infiltration (flow of outdoor air into the house) is less, the air exchange rate is low and pollutant levels increase. Increased pollutant levels lead to many health issues. This is where the usage of air ventilator becomes prominent. They help by bringing in enough fresh air from the outdoors, by diluting the indoor source emissions like odours, contaminants and humidity. In warm or humid months, in many countries, maintaining thermal comfort solely via natural ventilation may not be possible. In such cases, as mentioned earlier, conventional air conditioning systems which comprises of fans, ducts, dampers, and control systems are used as backups.

Air ventilator find wide application in various buildings, especially those structures that do not possess a good ventilation system. These include factory areas, lift rooms, power houses, offices, residences and hospitals. Places like cinema halls, theatres, malls, auditoriums, schools, colleges & other educational institutions etc, where a large gathering or crowd is expected, air ventilator find an important place.

There are different kinds of ventilators available in the market. However, they mainly fall into two categories - passive and electrical. While the passive air ventilator is turned by the outside air, the electrical one is functioned with the help of electricity. Eco-ventilators have also found their place in the market due to the growing demand and awareness for the conservation of the ecosystem. They come with a flexibility to be configured in such a manner that the requirements of fresh air changes are met with the demand.

Air Ventilators are ideal for manufacturing and automobile industries as it helps in eliminating harmful gases and foul smell. Researches have proved that the resultant effect on using a ventilator in such premises is immensely positive and productive as it makes the working environment healthy and perfect by reducing the exertion on the workers.
