Seasonal Front Porch Ideas

    The Basics

    • For the front door, traditional grapevine wreaths complete with seasonal decorations create the starting point for decorating your porch. Select a large wreath and attach small ornaments with wire. Loop the wire around the ornament and twist in the back to make it easy to change ornaments with the seasons. Some items can be tucked into the wreath without the aid of wire to create the look and style you prefer. Dried or silk flowers that reflect the season, dried leaves or small ornaments are quick and easy ways to decorate a grapevine wreath. Add contrasting ribbons for a dramatic effect.

Consider wall art to create the perfect backdrop to your seasonal decor. Inexpensive plaques, signs and seasonal images can be found at the dollar store for a few dollars and help create a unified look.

    Spring

    • Welcome spring to your home with buckets or boxes filled with bright spring bulbs. A bright display of daffodils or tulips celebrates the joy of spring and adds a brilliant splash of color. On railings, lining the steps or simply placed beside the front door, flowers in bloom lift the spirits and welcome spring.

    Summer

    • Summer is the time to brighten your porch with vibrant flowers in a variety of containers. Tiny birdhouses tucked between flowers create a whimsical display, while hummingbird feeders hung from the eves provide hours of enjoyment and add dazzling color. Use the railing to display favorite garden figurines, window boxes filled with flowing flowers or decorative items that that complement your basic decor. Add a large brass wind chime. Not only are these attractive, they provide the gentle music of the wind, as well.

    Fall

    • Welcome fall with bright orange and yellow. Adorn your porch with stately sunflowers, bright orange pumpkins and scarecrows. On a small table near the door, display multicolored gourds, bouquets of dried flowers and seed pods to enhance the natural beauty of fall.

Cornucopias filled to overflowing with garden harvest, big vases of dried leaves and bales of hay all make wonderful fall decor and provide the perfect backdrop for smaller items.

    Winter

    • Evergreen wreaths with holiday ornaments, buckets of evergreen sprays and big bowls of pine cones welcome winter and the holiday season. Evergreen swags draped from the eves and looped around the beams on your porch provide a nice contrast to a frozen landscape. Add bright red ribbons to provide holiday cheer.

Spray paint bowls silver and fill with a variety of pine cones and seed pods. Tie up with a red ribbon and display on a table or on the railing. Paint buckets and pails silver or gold and use to hold evergreen branches, sprigs of holly or oversized candy canes.

Tin lanterns, flickering candles and hanging lights create a welcoming entrance to your home on dark winter evenings.
