Why One Should Invest in a Portrait of One"s Pet

103 13
Anyone who has a pet, be it a dog a cat or a parrot or whatever, knows that they have a companion.
A friend for the life of the pet.
They have an intimate, and beautiful relationship.
A mutual bond that is an enjoyable journey.
To mark this friendship, many photographs will be taken and various birthdays and special occasions will be enjoyed together.
But, like all things, this must pass.
The beloved pet, partner, friend and companion will no longer be there in body and there will be a period of mourning.
The photographs will be looked at and any video footage will be viewed.
All of this is very good and fills the spaces left behind, but the physical presence is not there.
For this reason, an excellent quality portrait would be a lovely reminder of the spirit and feel of the lost companion.
A painting is able to capture a vibrance; an energy once lost of the faithful and lovable companion.
The fur could be touched; the feathers stroked; the glistening eyes and the familiar sound of their call.
The painting techniques of the old masters such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Titian; Rembrandt and Van Eyck can bring about a realism and life to a portrait so as to make it seem very real.
More so than a photograph, which depicts a subject very well, lacks a certain depth or vibrancy.
Investing in a portrait The painting techniques that are often employed are the Venetian/Flemish method which utilises many painted layers to imbue a certain glow to colours and a depth unrivalled in any other style of painting.
Also, Alla Prima or 'All at once' which is a wet into wet style of painting that is usually done in one sitting, which has a freer style, more lively - showing movement and life.
Exponents of this style were Frans Hals; Caravaggio and John Singer Sargent.
In order to choose an artist for a portrait one must look at the work on offer and decide if there is life in these works or are they just flat depictions of what once was? In terms of how much one should pay for a painting, one must look at the art itself.
Is it any good? Does it convey life? Is there real emotional content? Would you like to see your pet reproduced this way? A painting lasts more than a lifetime if done correctly, just look at the old master paintings in any museum - they are hundreds of years old! My thanks for reading this far, I do hope you feel it a worthy investment to pursue.
