How to Convert a Bedroom Closet Into a Craft Area
- 1). Measure from the floor of your closet to a height where you want your working surface to be. Mark this height with a pencil line all around the interior of the closet. This is where you will hang the shelf where you will do your crafting.
- 2). Hang shelving support brackets at the height you marked. Drill the brackets into the studs or use drywall screws for proper support. To find the studs, use a stud finder or knock with your hand until you feel a solid sound, rather than hollow space.
- 3). Place a cut-to-measure shelf on the brackets. Make sure it is thin enough to allow you to close the closet door.
- 4). Install self-adhesive hooks on the walls and hang baskets or totes over the hooks to hold small items.
- 5). Hang smaller shelves higher on the wall, wherever you want, to hold larger items.
- 6). Fit a short filing cabinet under your working shelf and use it to store items such as scrapbook paper. If you do not have room for a full filing cabinet, use a portable file tote to hold your decorative papers neatly under your desk.
- 7). Drill a hole in the bottom of the wall that is closest to an outlet. This will allow you to plug a desk lamp into a nearby outlet if your closet does not have lighting. If you have several electrical crafting tools, consider plugging a power strip into a nearby outlet and use the outlets in the power strip for lighting and tools.
