How to Do Radon Testing

Instructions

1

Perform the radon testing yourself. Most home improvement stores offer inexpensive radon test kits or you can find them online. Test kits come in two durations: long-term test kits that are accurate but take at least a few months to get results, and short-term test kits that are less accurate but can be done in a few days. Whichever you choose, follow the directions on the kit carefully so that the results of the radon test will not be contaminated.
2

Hire a professional to do the radon testing. If you are located in a county that is known to have higher levels of radon, then you may opt to have a professional perform the radon test. Though more expensive, the equipment used is far more sensitive and accurate than store bought radon tests.
3

Radon testing is not a one time deal. Remember to do radon testing whenever there is significant work done in or around your house such as installing a new patio or expanding your home. Anything that can cause a greater release of radon gas into your foundation warrants further radon testing.
