How Do I Program an ADT Security System?

Find the Current Master Code

• Before you can program your own access code into your ADT security system, you will need to have the current master access code. This code should be recorded in the user manual you received when you purchased the alarm system. Find that code before continuing to program your new unit.
  
  

Make Sure the System is Disarmed

• Make sure you know how to disarm your new ADT security system before you attempt to make any changes. In order to disarm the system you will need to enter the current master code. After you enter the correct master code, you will see a message that says "system disarmed", and about 5 seconds later you will see another message saying "enter code to arm system". This is your assurance that the system is now disarmed.
  
  

Reset the Master Code

• Before you attempt to reset the master code on your ADT security system first be sure that the security alarm is disarmed. If the system is currently armed you will not be able to reset the security code. After you are sure that the ADT security system is in the disarmed mode, press "5" on the keypad to enter the programming menu. The display will now prompt you for the current master access code. Enter the current master access code to continue and then use the arrow keys on the keypad to scroll to the "edit master code" option. At that point press the * key to select the option and enter the access code you desire. Then press the # on the keypad to exit the menu.
