Fantasy Hockey Breaking News: Lundqvist Plays Through Sore Knee

106 8

Rangers head coach John Tortorella just made it official. With a simple "he's in" response when asked if Henrik Lundqvist would start tonight against the Islanders, Tortorella dispelled all of the rumors that The King would miss this evening's contest.

Lundqvist, who will make his 22nd consecutive start in goal tonight, was shaken badly last night when he was struck with a shot either right above or dead-on his right knee during the second period of the Rangers' 1-0 loss to Buffalo.

Lundqvist favored the leg for the final two minutes of the period and was hunched over in pain heading off the ice when the buzzer sounded.

Lundqvist did play the third period and finished with 34 saves, but there was concern that the knee would either hurt too much or be too stiff in order for him to play this evening. Rookie Cam Talbot was summoned from the team's AHL affiliate to further fuel speculation that Lundqvist would not play, but his recall was just a precautionary move.

So fantasy hockey owners should make sure to keep Lundqvist in their lineups tonight and likley reap the benefits of his stellar play of late: 8-2-1 with a 1.61 goals against average, .945 save percentage, and three shutouts over his last 11 games.
