Frugal Travel Tips For Hong Kong

103 2
With its strong ties to England, Hong Kong is one of the most English speaker friendly regions in Asia.
It is also friendly for the frugal traveler, especially the frugal shopper.
The Markets There is a market for almost everyone in Hong Kong.
Stanley Market targets the distinguishing foodie with stands, shops, and even a free performance or two.
The Ladies Market offers a variety of clothing (sizes can be quite small, I found it difficult to find a shirt fitting over my large skull).
My favorites are the night markets including Yau Ma Tei's Temple Street Night Market with the crowds and exotic finger foods.
Entrance to the markets is free.
Wong Tai Sin Temple Wong Tai Sin Temple is a large Taoist temple and is one of the busiest in Hong Kong.
Because Wong Tai Sin supposedly had healing powers and the ability to tell the future, fortunetellers surround the temple and the grounds hold a pharmacy.
While at the Temple, visit the nearby Good Wish Gardens.
Entrance to the Temple is free but donations are welcomed.
As this is a working house of worship, proper respect is appreciated.
Aberdeen A former pirate haven, Aberdeen on the southern shore of the island has a flavor all its own.
It is home to boat people and a perfect place to find the freshest seafood.
There are floating restaurants and a variety of different (and often picturesque) water craft including junks and water taxis.
Walking along the shoreline is free but the delicious fish will cost you.
Tsim Sha Tsui The Tsim Sha Tsui area is a popular tourist destination.
Two highlights include, one of the symbols of Hong Kong, a beautiful clock tower from a former railway station, and the waterfront.
The waterfront is a must for photographers as it offers an unobstructed view of Central Hong Kong across the Victoria Harbour.
It is especially beautiful at night with all the buildings lit up.
The free attractions in Hong Kong allow the frugal traveler to snap up some of the bargains Hong Kong is noted for (remember to haggle).
