    Getting Rid of Ticks

    • 1). If you do not have an adequate supply of table salt in your cupboard, purchase more at your local grocery store. You will need a large volume to treat your entire home. Furniture will require a very light layer of salt, floors and windowsills a medium layer, and carpets a heavy layer.

    • 2). Let the salt remain on the upholstery and floors for at least 8 hours but no more than 10 hours. Allow salt to remain on the carpet for at least one week.

    • 3). Once the allotted time is up, vacuum the salt off the treated areas, and remove the vacuum cleaner bag, placing it in a sealed bag and disposing of it in the garbage.

    • 4). Do not allow children or pets to play in the salt-treated rooms during treatment. It's best to apply the salt prior to going to bed and vacuuming it up in the morning.

    • 5). If ticks are suspected on your pet, rub salt into your pet's skin while wearing plastic surgical gloves.
