If you are going to vacation you want to make sure you do a couple things before you leave so that your home is not a sitting duck. Have a neighbor pick up your mail and your newspaper. Picking up your mail can prevent criminals from seeing that you are not home for a week and this makes your home more inviting to rob. Also many people like to have timers that turn on their television or lights randomly while they are gone. This way it looks like someone is at home even if they are not. You can pick up these timers at your local hardware store for a couple dollars. Make sure your home is looked after while you are gone so you do not have to come home to a mess and another headache that ruins your relaxing vacation.

Invest in a home alarm. This is the best way to keep someone from entering your home. There are alarms on the windows and doors to keep someone from entering your house from the outside and alert you and the police is someone is in your home. Having an alarm can mean the difference between a quick police response and can often get the criminal out of your home before they can even enter or take anything from you. Home alarms are activated from inside your home with a keypad. Activate the alarm every time you leave the house or go to bed. If you are leaving your teens in the house alone it is another way to keep them safe while you are away too. Teach everyone how to arm your home alarm and how it works in case there is a problem that happens. Arming your home alarm is the easiest way to have another layer of security around your and your family.
