How to Hard-Wire Smoke Alarms

Single Alarms

• 1). Pull the household wires through the mounting plate.
  
  
• 2). Connect the white wire from the household supply to the white wire on the smoke alarm quick connector.
  
  
• 3). Connect the black wire from the household supply to the black wire on the smoke alarm quick connector.
  
  
• 4). Tape up any yellow or orange wire and tuck it into the junction box.
  
  

Interconnected Alarms

• 1). Pull the household wires through the mounting plate.
  
  
• 2). Connect the white wire from the household supply to the white wire on the smoke alarm quick connector.
  
  
• 3). Connect the black wire from the household supply to the black wire on the smoke alarm quick connector.
  
  
• 4). Connect the yellow wire that runs between the first and second smoke alarm to the respective yellow wires on the quick connectors. There is no yellow or orange wire run from the household supply to the first smoke alarm. Repeat for more smoke alarms.
