Make reading to your child a priority and a part of your daily routine.
Play with language.
Invest in some alphabet blocks, foam bath letters and magnetic letters.
These can be used from a very young age to teach your baby to recognize letters and also words.
By forming words and reading them to your child you are teaching them about language and letter sounds.
Children that are exposed to written language prior to beginning school definitely excel in the language skills.
Teach your child colors and shapes.
Babies are learning from the moment of their birth.
By talking to your baby about colors and shapes and making that a part of your daily conversation, your baby will naturally and easily learn to recognize colors and shapes with no formal lessons.
As you dress your baby describe the color of the clothes you are putting on them.
As you play or eat, point out the different shapes that surround you.
Babies are capable of recognizing colors and shapes even before they are able to speak.
