School Holiday Activities That Won't Cost the Earth

Kids want to get out and do activities, some of which can really add up to you spending hundreds of dollars. • Check out what is going on in your local area- School holidays is a time when many different galleries, community centres, libraries and shopping centres put on free live performances or activities for kids to do. This is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon and something the kids are sure to love.
• Take advantage of school holiday offers- During school holidays there are many different places you can go to experience great discounts on entry fees to zoos, bowling alleys and skating rinks. Look out for these offers in your local paper and on the venues website leading up to the holidays.
• Plan ahead- Kids are likely to get bored if they have days where nothing is planned and that's when the expenses add up. Planning their days in advance and making sure they have play dates scheduled and days where you can take them out to local parks and beaches means they have some great fun activities to look forward to and won't cost anything or very little.
• Get outdoors- There are some wonderful national parks and beaches that make for great fun days out with your kids. Pack a picnic and you're set for a perfect day your kids will enjoy.
• Movie nights and cooking activities- Kids love to spend time with friends. Having their friends over doesn't mean having to spend heaps either. Hire a few movies they can enjoy and before hand, get them in the kitchen and teach them how to make pizza and snacks they can enjoy while watching their movies.
• Making their own toys- There are many things that kids can make from stuff around the house. From online toys you can get off the Internet by printing and folding to make 3D, to getting creative with toilet paper rolls and egg cartons, there are hours of fun to be had. Musical instruments are also a great easy and fun thing to make and can be done by simply using a number of containers and filling them with different things such as rice and beans to get different sounds.
