According to the National Sleep Foundation, women are more likely to experience sleep problems than men. Working mothers, singles mothers and stay at home mothers all fairing the worst. Good mood and good health are directly related to good sleep, so lack of sleep may be something you should lose sleep about. - The number one obstacle is a good night's sleep appears to be stress.
A 2005 poll, "Sleep in America," found that 80 percent of women reported being bothered by worrying too much about things. Quieting your mind at night can be quite a challenge. Fortunately, many online courses and tips on how to relax and meditate are just a mouse click away. - Hormonal fluctuations make women more susceptible to depression than men. NYC Psychotherapist Colette Dowling found that not being able to fall asleep when you first go to bed sleep can be linked to stress and anxiety, regularly waking at 4 am can also be a sign of depression. Another form of a sleep disorder is hypersomnia, the need for more sleep than normal. Antidepressants and or therapy can greatly ease the problems associated with insomnia and hypersomnia brought on by depression.

According to The Washington Post, women are more affected by the affects of alcohol then men. Consuming alcohol before bedtime is a habit for some women, believing that it "relaxes them." In truth, alcohol can disrupt your sleep throughout the night and possibly prevent you from entering the important REM cycle of sleep.
