How to Restring Slotted Guitar Tuners
- 1). Remove the old low E string, if necessary, and secure the new string through the tail piece. Pull the string end tight up to the headstock.
- 2). Pull the string end straight past the low E tuning machine. Snip off the end of the string about 1.5 to 2 inches past the peg.
- 3). Turn the low E tuning machine so the peg's slot sits at a 60 degree angle to the nut. Slip the string into the machine head slot and pull the slack toward the neck. Hold the end of the string in the slot with a finger.
- 4). Turn the machine head 90 degrees, pulling the string to the inside of the headstock, to pin the string in the peg slot. Hold the string in its nut slot and wind it tight. Use an electronic tuner to bring it to proper tension.
- 5). Repeat with all remaining strings.
