How to Put a Car Starter in a 2000 Honda

    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable and set it aside, ensuring that it does not touch metal. Remove the wiring from the starter motor with the appropriate wrench.

    • 2). Remove the lower radiator hose and bracket from the starter motor with a socket. Remove the two starter bolts holding the starter on the trans-axle assembly then pull the starter off.

    • 3). Bolt the new starter to the trans-axle assembly. Tighten the starter bolts to 33 foot-pounds of torque. Reattach the lower radiator hose and bracket. Attach the starter wiring with the appropriate sockets, making sure the crimped side of the heavy starter cable is facing out.

    • 4). Enter the reset code for the theft protection system. You should have a card with the code and information as to how to reset it. If you lost the card with the code, you can get this information from the dealer but be prepared to prove ownership of the car.
