    • 1). Gather the firewood in a stack. The firewood should be neatly packed to minimize air space between the firewood.

    • 2). Measure the the length, width and depth of the stack.

    • 3). Calculate the volume of the stack by multiplying the length, width and depth. For example, if the dimensions were 10 feet by 8 feet by 12 feet, the volume would be 960 cubic feet.

    • 4). Divide the volume found in step four by 128 to calculate the number of cords. For example, a stack with a volume of 960 cubic feet would be equal to 7.5 cords.
