- 1). Set out termite bait impregnated with a termiticide. Place the bait in the ground to attract subterranean termites looking for food. The bait typically consists of pieces of paper and cardboard along with a lethal chemical. When termites discover the bait, they share it with members of their colony, destroying the population.
- 2). Prepare a termiticide solution at a concentration suitable for trenching, following the manufacturer's instructions. Inject the solution into the soil around the foundation of an infested home to repel subterranean termites. To do this, dig a trench next to the foundation and apply the solution along its length. The trench should be approximately 6 inches deep, but not so deep as to disturb the foundation of the house. Refill the trench with soil, mixing it with the termiticide solution. This approach attempts to place a chemical blanket between the termites in the soil and the home.
- 3). Prepare a termiticide solution at a concentration suitable for treating above-ground termite infestations, following the manufacturer's instructions. Place the solution in a compressed air sprayer then spray the solution on the outdoor wooden surfaces of an area infested by above-ground termites. Also spray holes, voids and channels in any damaged wood frequented by termites. Also, spray cracks and crevices and any termites you see.
- 4). Consult a professional termite inspector if you discover termites inside your home. Pest control companies are licensed to use more robust chemical treatment options than those available at retail stores.
