How to Test Paint Chips

104 38
    • 1). Test the paint chips in the store. Almost every place that sells paint will have little light boxes next the paint chips. These light boxes allow you to examine the different kinds of light (sunlight, incandescent, florescent) and how they impact the color choice on the paint chip. Make sure you know what types of light are in the room you will be painting.

    • 2). Get a paint sample. Paint samples only cost a few dollars and can save you from pulling out your hair after spending several hours painting a room. Instead of painting the sample directly onto the wall, paint it on a poster board and tack or tape the poster to the wall. Leave it there for at least 24 hours so you can see what the paint color looks like at all times of the day.

    • 3). Test the paint chip by just taping it onto your wall. Although a paint sample will give you the best idea of what color you want, you may not want to pay for fifteen sample cans of paint. Instead tape the paint chips to the wall and leave them there. Eliminate them one by one as you see them throughout the next few days.
