How to Use a MacBook As a PVR
- 1). Connect your cable, satellite or antenna to the TV tuner of the MacBook. Some computers have a built-in tuner, while others will require an external device. If you do not have a TV tuner, the same process can be used with Web TV sites such as Hulu.
- 2). Open QuickTime on the computer. Click “File” in the upper left and select “New Screen Recording.” A recording window will appear on the screen.
- 3). Click the down arrow on the box and select “Built-in Input: Internal microphone” if recording from the Web. If using a TV tuner, select the TV tuner as the microphone option.
- 4). Click “Record” to begin the capture. Bring up the video that you want to capture. Make sure the video is in full screen mode. Play the video.
- 5). Click the “Stop” button when the video is complete and the file will be saved. There is a trim option available under the “Edit” menu to clip the beginning and end of the video.
- 1). Connect a EyeTV compatible TV Tuner to your MacBook.
- 2). Install the EyeTV software on the computer. The program gives functionality similar to that of a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).
- 3). Click “Program Guide” in the EyeTV Programs window. Information about upcoming programs will appear.
- 4). Find the program that you want to record. Click the red “Record” button to begin recording the program. It will stop automatically at the completion of the program.
