Compact discs and DVDs are given the name as Recordable media because the user can record content into it and play it. This content can be audio or video which can be used in the player or can also be some data which can be read in the computer and these discs can be single use or multiple use depends upon the format. Old VHS videotapes and cassettes can also be called recordable media because the term is used for the media on which recording is possible. USB memory sticks cannot be referred as recordable media because it is generally used for the data purpose. There are two types of main recordable media one is the single use disc and the other is re writable disc. The disc prices have dropped continuously so there is not much demand of the rewritable one. There are some computers that use single use discs which allows the user to write data to it on various or multiple times. But in this system each disc can be used only once. Three options are there for recording the data on a disc and one amongst it is to create a disc containing either audio content or video content for playback on a CD player or DVD player which requires the data to be encoded and organized in a specific format such that the player sees the disc. The second one is to use the disc for data storage only, which means that it can be read only in a computer. And the last one is to store audio or video files on the disc without creating it in specific CD or DVD format and then play the files on the player which is compatible to the disc.
