- 1). Organize your cleaning products. If you don't already have shelves in your laundry room, install some. Place your laundry detergent, fabric softener, bleach and stain removers on these shelves.
- 2). Place dirty clothes hampers in area where people are most likely to change clothes. These areas usually include bedrooms and bathrooms.
- 3). Place multiple laundry baskets in your laundry room for sorting clothes. Keep one basket for gathering clothes from the various hampers. Place clothespins on or near the hamper and instruct family members to attach a clothespin onto any stained areas of clothing so that you know to treat the stains.
- 4). Carry a laundry basket with you as you check the hampers once each day. Place dirty clothing into the basket and take it to the laundry room so that your laundry doesn't accumulate.
- 5). Sort the laundry as soon as you take it to the laundry room. Place similar items (such as delicates, whites and dark colors) in each basket.
- 6). Apply a prewash stain remover to any items that have clothespins.
- 7). Wash clothes once you have enough in any particular basket to make a load.
- 8). Dry, fold and return clothing to their proper places as soon as possible after washing.
