What Could Be the Problem if My Bryant Air Conditioner Is Not Working?
- Make certain that the air conditioning unit has power available to it. Do this by locating the specific circuit breaker within the breaker panel that corresponds to the air conditioning unit. The circuit breaker may or may not be marked, so look for any tripped circuit breakers. Flip the circuit breaker into the "ON" position, if necessary. Once you identify the right circuit breaker, mark it so that you can easily identify it in the future.
- Cleaning the air conditioning unit's filter is a basic maintenance task that you should routinely complete. If not changed, a dirty filter inhibits the air conditioner's performance and, even though the unit might keep running, it won't cool as it should. According to Bryant, under extreme circumstances, when the filter is particularly dirty, the restriction placed on the unit's airflow can even cause your outdoor unit, the condenser, to completely shut down. Examine the filter and either clean or replace a dirty one.
- The unit does not cool as expected if the thermostat on the air conditioner is not set to the "cool" position. After verifying or adjusting the thermostat's position, also check and verify that the furnace blower is running properly. If it is not, but the thermostat is set in the correct "cool" position, locate the furnace blower's "ON/OFF" switch and switch it to the "ON" position.
- The air conditioner might also not work due to an outdoor switch where you can cut off power to the unit, located near the unit. A disconnect switch is normally positioned on the lower exterior wall, and likely inside a gray box that is 8 inches wide and 16 inches tall, next to or very near the compressor. Open the box and look at the switch to make sure that it is not flipped into the "OFF" position. If it is, flip it back to the "ON" position.
