    • 1). BARNUM'S ANIMALS. Crumbled-up Barnum's Animal Crackers in a seed table will attract birds to your yard.

      * Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening: Keep squirrels away from a bird feeded by greasing the pole with Crisco All-Vegetable Shorting. The Squirrels will try to climb up the pole - but will slide right back down, providing you with hours of free entertainment. We have fun watching the squirrels work for hours, then finally give up.

      * Domino Sugar: To attract hummingbirds and orioles, mix one part Domino Sugar to four parts water in a commercial humminbird feeder or a water bottle make for hamsters or rabbits and then suspend it upside down. Clean out the feeder at least once a week and refill with a fresh batch of this formula.

    • 2). * Efferdent: Clean a hummingbird feeded by filling the bottle with hot water and dropping in one-half Efferdent tablet. Wait five minutes and then rinse clean. Works great.

*FRISBEE: Make a birdbath by punching three equidistant holes along the circumference of a Frisbeee. Insert wire through the holes and hang the Frisbee upside down from a tree or post. Fill with water or let the rain do it naturally. Clean the Frisbee and replace the water regularly.

      * GATORADE: To store birdseed, pour an open box or bag of birdseed into a clean, empty Gatorade bottle and secure the lid to keep the birdseed fresh and free from insects and mice.

Glad Trash Bags: Fill small Glad Trash Bags with air, tie them shut, and staple to tall stakes throughout the garden. The plastic bags, flapping in the breeze, frighten away birds.

*Heinz White Vinegar: To keep cats away from birdbaths, fill a trigger-spray bottle with Heinz White Vinegar and spray around the base of the birdbath. The smell of vinegar repulses cats and neutralizes the smell of cat urine used to mark their territory.

      * Jef Peanut Butter, Hartz Parakeet Seed, and Oral-B Mint Waxed Floss: Role a pinecone in Jif Peanut Butter, then roll the sticky pinecone in Hartz Parakeet Seed. Use a piece of Oral-B-Mint Waxed Floss to hang the homemade bird feeder from a tree brance to attract birds to your yard.

*L'eggs Sheer Energy Panty Hose and Oral-B Mint Waxed Floss: To prevent birds from destroying growing fruits and vegetables, cut off the feet from a clean, used pair of L'eggs Sheer Energy panty Hose, slip a foot over an apple, pear, tomato, eggplant, grape cluster, or broccoli or cabbage head, and seal the open end closed with a piece of Oral-B Mint Waxed Floss. The synthetic fibers keep birds away, and the flexible hose expands as the fruit or vegetable grows. You can also cut a section from the leg of the panty hose, tie one end closed with dental floss, cover the fruit or vegetable, and then secure the open end shut.

    • 3). * McCormick Ground (Cayenne) Red Pepper: Keep squirrels out of the bird feeder by sprinkling the birdseed with McCormick Ground Red Pepper. The birds cannot taste the cayenne pepper, but squirrels can and nothing to do with it.

      * Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping Corn: Birds love freshly popped popcorn. Just make sure you buy a natural and now butter-flavored variety.

*Quaker Oats: A bird feeder filled with uncooked Quaker Oats will attract birds to your yeard.

      * SueBee Honey, Hartz Parakeet Seed, Charmin, and Oral-B Mint Waxed Floss: Make a simple bird feeder by rolling an empty cardboard tube from a roll of Charmin Bath Tissue in Suebee Honey, then rolling the honey-coated tube in the Hartz Parakeet Seed. Use Oral-B Mint Waxed Floss to hang the birdseed-coated tube outdoors.

*Sun-Maid Raisins: Attract robins and bluebirds to your yard by filling a seed table with Sun-Maid Raisins.

Strange Facts - To stay airborne, birds must fly at an average speed of eleven miles per hour.

      * Fear of birds is called ORNITHOPHOBIA.
      * The heart of an active humminbird beats five hundred times a minute. When the same hummingbird sleeps, its heart slows to less than ten beats a minute.
