Holiday Insurance for the Senior Citizen

103 14
More and more seniors are skipping the travel agency and planning and booking their own holiday.
Holiday insurance, over 65 years of age is a must.
Do not hesitate at all to take out a comprehensive cover that will give you a peace of mind.
The rule is -- don't travel if you can't afford the insurance! You will be protected for a wide range of things that can spring up along your travel journey.
Here's what travel insurance for the over 65s can, and should, protect you from.
1 - It Covers Travel Agency Bankruptcy.
Travel and tourism is a hot industry, and competition is rather fierce.
More and more travel agencies are being established by the year to take a slice of the pie.
But unfortunately, not all travel agencies are as well-financed or well-managed as others, and may declare bankruptcy all of a sudden - cash flow being the downfall for many agencies.
Book with a reputable online travel agency or bricks and mortar travel agency and this shouldn't happen.
However, your travel insurance should cover the likelihood of your travel agency suddenly going bankrupt.
It's a good way to make sure your vacation pushes through at little or no additional cost to yourself.
2 - It Covers Medical Emergencies.
Unfortunately, you can't rule out the possibility of accidents happening during your vacation.
You can also get sick from accidents, local diseases, insects, or bad drinking water.
Having adequate travel insurance will cover the expenses of medical bills and transportation in case things DO go badly.
However, do not expect it to cover you for pre-existing illnesses, particularly if you are looking for holiday insurance when your are over 65 years of age.
Travel insurance can also cover you even before the vacation starts! Let's say you got sick on the day before your vacation started, and you need to re-book your flights and accommodations.
Travel insurance may cover the re-booking fees, keeping your vacation money intact.
3 - It Covers Thefts And Suits.
Another unfortunate risk everyone deals with during vacations is crime.
Lost wallets and pieces of luggage aren't uncommon complaints faced by travelers.
Travel insurance protects you with a certain amount, often enough to tide you over until you can get home from your vacation.
Travel insurance also protects you from lawsuits.
It's a very remote possibility, but there have been cases when travelers were unexpectedly slapped with lawsuits due to unfortunate events during their vacations.
With insurance, you're covered for a certain amount if ever you get sued.
4 - It Covers Travel And Accommodation Conflicts.
Even today, flights can get delayed.
Even the smallest change in your travel schedule can cause a wave of missed connecting flights, missed cruise ship voyages, and hotel rooms you still have to pay for.
And, yes, re-booking your travel and accommodations can cost you a pretty penny! That's yet another good reason why getting adequate travel insurance is a good idea.
It saves you a good amount of vacation money by covering the re-booking fees made necessary by scheduling conflicts.
5 - It Covers Violent Uprisings.
Finally, you can't count out the possibility of violent uprisings.
When top tourist destination Egypt suddenly fell into discord in early 2011, did you see it coming? No matter how safe your intended destination is, you still don't want to get stuck in the middle of turmoil -- check if your travel insurance covers the possibility! The bottom line is this -- travel insurance is ALWAYS necessary.
Ask your travel agent about what their insurance package covers.
And don't be shy to negotiate a seniors travel discount on your insurance.
Travel insurance carries huge commissions, most travel agencies do and can discount your travel insurance.
