Window Cleaning Business - Plan Now For the Winter Slowdown

103 1
Window Cleaners know that cleaning windows is a very profitable business.
However, it is also typically considered a seasonal job.
This means that your work slows down and may completely stop during the winter months, especially if you do not target commercial clients.
This could mean a serious cash pinch for anyone who cleans windows for a living.
And this is why it's important for window cleaners to plan ahead for the winter slowdown.
Too often window cleaners fail to plan for the winter slowdown.
Then they are forced to try and live on their savings throughout the winter months.
But this can be very stressful, especially when the money starts to run low.
Living off your savings can also cause you to be a slave to your finances.
Certainly you know this is true if you've ever tried to live off your savings or a sub par income through the winter months.
So, all window cleaners need to start planning and thinking ahead now.
This means they have to think about other ways of making money with other services during the off season.
And they need to start marketing and lining out their other services right now.
There are a lot of other services that window cleaners can offer.
It's very easy to transition to another job that also deals with people's homes.
For example, you can install holiday lights for people, clean out their gutters, remove snow from their walkways or their driveway, or you could shovel snow off their roof.
It all depends on exactly where you live.
If you live in a climate where you get a lot of snow then snow removal makes a lot of sense.
If not, then cleaning gutters and/or putting up holiday lights might be the way to go.
Obviously a major part of planning now for the winter slowdown has to include marketing.
You can't simply decide to start doing these things once the fall rolls around and the weather turns cold.
You need to start marketing right now so that you already have customers lined-up before the end of the summer.
This way you'll know that the money will keep coming in and you'll be able to continue with the lifestyle you enjoy while you're cleaning windows.
There are a lot of very effective ways that you can market your business.
You should start with your existing window cleaning customers.
If you don't already have a mailing list then you need to start one immediately.
A great way to help build that list would be to run a contest and ask local businesses if they'd be willing to let you put a contest box in their place of business.
This will allow you to collect people's physical addresses and email addresses.
Of course advertising in newspapers and the yellow pages can be very effective too.
The winter slowdown affects every window cleaning business differently, however without proper planning and advance consideration, your income may virtually disappear for a few months.
So take the time now to figure out how your business will thrive through the off season.
