Top 5 Preventative Maintenance Checks for Cosmetic Lasers and IPL Equipment

101 1
Performing regular preventative maintenance on your cosmetic laser systems and IPL is just as important as getting regular oil changes and maintenance checks on a vehicle.  Aesthetic lasers and IPL systems have complex components and like any other piece of equipment, they require annual maintenance.  Cosmetic laser equipment requires a significant capital investment which means ensuring the longevity of these devices is extremely important.  Performing basic annual maintenance is critical to equipment reaching its fullservice life:

There are several key items that The Laser Warehouse recommends be addressed when performing preventative maintenance:

1. Power Supply Voltage
It is recommenced that you check the correct voltages of the equipment to make sure the power supplies are working correctly.  Problems can arise from the power supplies if they have to work too hard especially if they are overheating.  Also if the supply is overheating are not getting enough air flow they can fail. Power supplies on most IPL devices seem to work better when the room temperature is around 70 to 72 degrees F.

2. Circuit boards:
Dust builds up on circuit boards.  Laser or IPL equipment should be kept in an environment that is free of dust and lent. Lent seems it is attracted to power supplies. If this happens, it can cause electrical arching if too much this dust builds up.  If the board becomes covered in the dust or covered in lent this can cause a failure in the power supply.

3. Water Radiators:  Radiators should be kept completely clean and free of water.  The Laser Warehouse recommends that you flush radiators as mold and other debris can collect over time. If a radiator becomes clogged with mold or other buildup it could lead to some
potentially expensive repairs.  If not caught in time, mold deposits can break loose and get into the water pumps and high pressure and low pressure switches. This can result in a failure of these
systems.

4. TEC modules:  Tec modules wires need to be checked for continuity.  Have the TEC modules tested to make sure they are cooling the cosmetic laser device correctly.  The Laser Warehouse also recommends checking the heat sinks to make sure they are making good contact with the TEC modules.

5. Water filters:  Water filters should be changed at least annually.  Problems arise when
water becomes stagnate inside of a closed water cooling system.  When this happens, the pressure switches inside the cooling system become clogged and the water pumps have to work harder.  Over time, the pumps will fail if the situation is not corrected.   Water pumps will work better when water is clean and free of mold, bacteria and other surfactants that are generated when water stagnates.

When medical equipment breaks down, these are five of the most common causes for failure.  All of these situations are easily preventable and basic preventative maintenance can help you avoid equipment breakdowns.  The Laser Warehouse performs these services as part of its basic maintenance program for customers. Waiting too long or just not doing any maintenance at all will definitely affect the operation of your cosmetic laser equipment.  In the long run, it is definitely more cost effective to invest in routine maintenance than to
have to repair these components or even to replace equipment.
