How to Kick a Soccer Ball High
- 1). Loosen up before practicing soccer skills. This can be done by using some basic stretching exercises focused on the lower body. It's also good to loosen up the upper body so you will feel balanced on the field. For this, perform rotating exercises with the arms, shoulders, neck and waist.
- 2). Kicking a soccer ball high requires a kick known as the instep drive. To complete an instep drive, place the ball on the ground in front of you. Place your non-kicking foot directly next to the ball. Draw your kicking foot back and drive it forward forcefully, connecting with the laces of your shoe. An instep drive is similar to a wedge shot in golf in that the foot wedges itself between the ball and the field, giving the ball loft.
- 3). Reverse the positioning of your feet to practice the instep drive with the other foot. Place the ball on the ground in front of you. Place your non-kicking foot directly next to the ball. Draw your kicking foot back and drive it forward forcefully, connecting with the laces of your shoe.
- 4). Practice running up to a stationary ball, then delivering an instep drive. Place the ball on the ground and move back 15 to 20 feet. Approach the ball by running at half-speed, paying particular attention to planting the non-kicking foot directly next to the ball and executing an instep drive. Increase the speed of your approach as you become comfortable with the footwork.
- 5). Practice dribbling the ball and doing an instep drive with the ball at your feet while you are on the move. Begin by dribbling the ball at half-speed, paying particular attention to planting the non-kicking foot directly next to the ball and executing an instep drive. Increase the speed of your dribbling as you become comfortable with the footwork.
