There's no easy way to tell a friend they have bad breath, and it's even worse when that friend is your boyfriend that you love to kiss and cuddle.
Unfortunately, halitosis can come between a happy couple.
After all, who wants to place their lips upon those of someone whose breath is so offensive that they should stand back a couple of paces? There is a nice way and a mean way to say anything.
Naturally, being your boyfriend, someone you care about and don't want to hurt, you'll want to be as sensitive and kind as possible.
The last thing you want to do is hurt his feelings.
You also can't avoid telling him he has bad breath because he may not be aware of it and other people might be noticing.
One easy way to bring up the subject is to take out a pack of mints or gum whilst on a date.
Offer him one and if he declines, tell him you love it when his breath smells all minty.
If he seems confused as to why you'd say such a thing, you can now broach the subject further.
If the two of you have a very close relationship and find you can normally discuss very intimate subjects, it should be fairly easy to introduce the topic, but be sure that your boyfriend knows that it's not a criticism.
You certainly don't want to embarrass him.
You could ease into the subject by asking him what he would do if he had a girlfriend who had bad breath.
This would give you a hint as to his own sensitivity and will enable you to determine how best to approach.
Something relatively simple as halitosis has the potential to break up a relationship between girlfriend and boyfriend if nothing is done.
Turning the tables from being the sufferer to the advisor may make him suffer in the short term, but ultimately, if he's prepared to do something about it, then the problem will be resolved happily.
Look on the bright side; if your boyfriend can't handle being told he has bad breath, and refuses to accept what you say as the truth, then you won't have to deal with his bad breath anymore anyway!
