How to Backup Music on My Windows Media Player Library
- 1). Open Windows Media Player.
- 2). Insert a blank CD into your computer.
- 3). Click on "Library" in the menu bar. On the drop down menu that appears, click on "Music." Your music library will appear in the main window.
- 4). On the menu bar, click on "Burn." On the drop down menu that appears, click on the option that says "Data CD." Depending on what drives you have available, you might have an option that says "Data CD or DVD." This sets the type of disc Windows Media Player will burn.
- 5). Click on the "Burn" button again, and a task pane labeled "Burn List" will appear on the right side of Windows Media Player.
- 6). To back up your entire music library, hold down the control key and type a letter "A." Doing so will select every song in your library. You can also select every song by clicking the first song in the music library, scrolling to the bottom of library, holding down the "Shift" key and clicking on the last song in the music library. If you want to back up only certain songs, you can hold down the control key and click on the individual songs to select them. When you have made your selection, right-click on a selected music file in the library (any will do) and select "Add to Burn List" from the list of options that appears.
- 7). Click the "Start Burn" button at the bottom right corner of Windows Media Player. The music will now begin burning to the blank CD you inserted earlier. Once the CD is finished being burned, the songs will disappear from the "Burn List" (but not your Windows Media Player library). If there are songs still in the "Burn List," then additional CDs need to be burned to hold all the songs. Eject the CD of burned songs and insert another blank CD. Press the "Start Burn" button and more songs will be burned onto the blank CD. Repeat this as necessary until all the music has been burned to CDs. Once complete, you have made a backup of your Windows Media Player music library.
